Famous Watches – Celebrity Owned

Luxury watch brands have been endorsed by actors, athletes, and prominent figures for decades. Unlike the standard celebrity and brand partnership, high-end watch manufacturers refer to their endorsers as “brand ambassadors”.

Luxury watches, and celebrity endorsed watches, are consistently used as collateral for a pawn loan with New York Loan Company, Manhattan’s only high-end pawnshop. Some companies like Tag Heuer, collect many various famous figures, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tiger Woods, and Uma Thurman. Most luxury watch companies like to stick with one or two hand selected endorsers. Jon Hamm for Jaeger LeCoultre, and David Duchovny for Baume & Mercier for instance.

A few companies go above and beyond, creating limited edition watches for a celebrity, their charitable foundation, or a popular character. Shaquille O’Neal has a limited edition from Audemars Piguet, which retails for over $30,000. Kobe Bryant has a limited edition Hublot named after him, where proceeds benefit his family’s charitable foundation.

The iconic James Bond movies have had many different watches featured, including Rolex and Breitling, but in 1997 James Bond moved on to Omega watches and has never looked back. Now Omega produces limited edition watches based on each movie, the most recent model retailing for $7,500. New York Loan Company has had many variations of the Bond watch in their ever-changing showcase.

The Rolex Daytona Paul Newman is by far the most coveted celebrity braded watch, and one of the favorite watches of those at New York Loan. The actor was a huge fan of Rolex and wore his Daytona in the 1969 movie Winning. From there the relationship grew and the Paul Newman Daytona became a watch of legends. At a recent Christie’s auction a rare model, the “RCO” Paul Newman, sold for $1,089,186.

Luxury Watch Spotlight: Vacheron Constantin

Vacheron Constantin, one of the most prestigious and important watch manufacturers in the world, is part of the “Trinity” of great Swiss watchmakers, along with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. Like any other long standing company, Vacheron Constantin has had many ups and downs including surviving the French Revolution, both World Wars, and the Great Depression. While New York Loan Company can trace its roots back to 1938, the story of Vacheron & Constantin starts in 1755 in Geneva, Switzerland. Starting out under Jean-Marc Vacheron the company created the first complication and the first engine-turned dials. It wasn’t until 1819 the Francois Constantin joined the company and became Vacheron & Constantin. In 1839 they hired Georges-Auguste Leschot, a genius innovator of serialized production that transformed both the company and the watchmaking industry as a whole. In fact his contributions are credited for launching the company into major success, as they quickly became a large supplier of components to other watchmakers. Throughout the company’s long history it has had many prestigious clients and in their native Switzerland they were the favored brand for prominent official gifts. In 1887 the famed Third Imperial Egg from Fabergé held a Vacheron Constantin watch. The watch manufacturers have either sold or gifted watches to names such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Elizabeth II, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Princess Diana, and Marlon Brando. The company is still known for its fine watchmaking and classic styles. New York Loan Company both purchases and provides pawn loans against high-end luxury watches, like the models from Vacheron Constantin: Traditionnelle, Ovearseas, Historiques, and Heures Creatives.
