The 4 C’s are the main factors that go into determining the value and rarity of a stone, and they all work together. Perhaps the most straight forward “c” involved in the 4C’s, Carat is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. The bigger the diamond, the rarer it is.
One carat is equal to 100 points and is counted to the hundredth decimal point – thus a diamond that weighs 150 points is 1.50 carats. The Loan Officers at New York Loan Company, the premiere pawn shop in New York City’s 47th Street Diamond District, have accurate scales certified by the Department of Consumer Affairs that can properly determine the weight of your loose diamond.
One thing to remember is that diamonds of equal weights will have very different values, depending on the other 3 factors – Color, Clarity and Cut. New York Loan employs Gemologists trained at The Gemological Institute of America who can determine these factors and loan or purchase accordingly.
